Medical education at the Vanderbilt School of Medicine emphasizes good communication and cultural understanding, in addition to core sciences. All medical students are placed into four advisory colleges that offer academic and personal enrichment activities.

In addition to a traditional M.D., Vanderbilt medical students can pursue a variety of dual degree programs, including an M.D./J.D. through the Vanderbilt Law School, an M.D./M.B.A. through the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management, or an M.D./M.Div. through the Divinity School. There is also an M.D./Ph.D. Medical Scientist Training Program, as well as innovative master’s degree programs including a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (M.S.C.I.), Master of Education of the Deaf (M.D.E.), and Master of Medical Physics (M.S.M.P.)

Outside of class, students can get involved in more than 30 organizations, from the Couples in Medicine club to the Wilderness Medical Society. The Vanderbilt University Medical Center, also in Nashville, Tenn., is a highly ranked network of hospital facilities.
