Baylor College of Medicine is located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. Medical students can explore the many dining, shopping, sports, arts, and recreational opportunities in Houston, along with its roughly 20,000 acres of public parks and open water. But the Baylor Medical School wasn’t always in Houston; it was originally founded in Dallas in 1900, moved to Houston in 1943, and became an independent institution from Baylor University in 1969.
Today, BCM students can pursue four different M.D. dual degree programs. The Medical Scientist Training Program combines an M.D. with a Ph.D., and includes research opportunities in several institutions, including Rice University, also in Houston. Through another program, in a partnership with the Rice University Jones School of Management, BCM students can earn both an M.D. and an M.B.A. in five years so they can go on to work in health care and life sciences management.
Baylor College of Medicine students interested in public health issues should check out the M.D./M.P.H. program in partnership with the University of Texas School of Public Health, and others can pursue the M.D./J.D. program through a partnership with the University of Houston Law Center.
The Baylor College of Medicine is home to many top ranked programs, including those in the Department of Pediatrics, which offers residency training in general pediatrics and fellowships in more specific areas of the field. BCM students can also check out the school’s 12 Ph.D. programs in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
BCM students can complement their studies by participating in more than 30 student organizations, ranging from the Pediatric Student Association, to the Latino Medical Student Association, to the BCM Social Dance Club.
