The Villanova University School of Law is a private institution about 15 miles from Philadelphia. Students can take advantage of the location by partaking in school-approved externships, including judicial externships with Philadelphia-area judges and criminal prosecution externships with district attorneys in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.
In school, Villanova law students can focus their studies in a certain legal practice area, if interested, with options including sports and entertainment, government, and real estate practice. For students who want an extra focus in business, there is a dual J.D./M.B.A. degree program offered in conjunction with the Villanova School of Business. Villanova School of Law has a strong law school ranking in tax law, and, also with the School of Business, offers a Master of Taxation degree program.
Outside of class, there are many student organizations to consider joining, including the International Law Society, the Francophone Professional Student Organization, and the Brehon Irish Law Society. There are also several law journals that many offer opportunities to get involved, including Villanova Law Review, the Villanova Sports and Entertainment Law Journal, and the Journal of Catholic Social Thought. For students seeking an international experience, Villanova Law offers a Rome Summer Program and an international studies program with the schools including the University of Edinburgh and Birkbeck College of the University of London.
