The University of Kansas School of Law is a public institution on the university’s main campus in Lawrence. The law school offers a variety of ways for students to hone legal skills in specific areas, whether through concentrations—including media, law, and technology; tribal law; and business and commercial law—or through more than 10 clinics, which train students to counsel clients about elder law, criminal prosecution, and more.
Students interested in earning a joint degree have many options to do so through other departments of the University of Kansas. For instance, a law student could pursue a joint J.D./M.B.A through the KU School of Business, a J.D./Master of Science in Journalism through the KU William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications, or a J.D./Master of East Asian Languages and Cultures through the KU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The KU School of Law operates a variety of centers, including the Center for International Trade and Agriculture; the Tribal Law and Government Center; and the Shook, Hardy, and Bacon Center for Excellence in Advocacy. It is also home to two student-edited journals, the Kansas Law Review and the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy. Students seeking an experience outside of Lawrence have several study abroad options to consider, including a semester in London and summers in either Cambridge, England, Istanbul, or Ireland.
