The University of Houston Law Center is a Texas institution that is highly ranked for its programs in intellectual property law and healthcare law and for its part-time law program. The school operates a variety of legal centers and institutes, including the Center for Consumer Law, the Institute for Intellectual Property and Information Law, and the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resource Center.
Students can get hands-on legal experience through the school’s clinics, which provide training in immigration law, criminal defense, and more. Students have the option to complete a combined or concurrent degree program, including a J.D./M.B.A. offered in conjunction with the University of Houston C.T. Bauer College of Business and a J.D./M.D. offered through the Baylor College of Medicine.
Outside of class, students can get involved in a variety of organizations, including the Aggie Law Society, which unites Law Center attendees who are former Texas A&M University students, and the Energy and Environmental Law Society. There are also student legal journals to consider, including the Environmental and Energy Law and Policy Journal and the Houston Journal of Health Law and Policy. There are more than 11,000 alumni of the University of Houston Law Center, and, after graduation, the majority remains in the Houston area.
