Located just 20 minutes from Sacramento and about an hour from California’s Bay Area, the University of California—Davis School of Law puts its students near hubs of law and policy. Law students can choose to concentrate their education in areas including business law, criminal law, environmental and natural resources law, and public interest law, and there are certificate programs offered in public service law and environmental law. Students can also spend a semester in Washington, D.C. completing externships through a University of California program offered to law students from UC Davis, UC—Berkeley, and UCLA.
The UC Davis School of Law operates out of King Hall, named for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and is home to several centers for research and policy, including the California International Law Center and the California Environmental Law and Policy Center. Students can get involved with more than 40 student organizations, as well as legal journals such as the UC Davis Law Review, the Business Law Journal, and the Journal of Juvenile Law & Policy.
Law students can apply to live in campus apartments or can use the Student Housing Office to find private options. Notable alumni of the UC—Davis School of Law include Tani Cantil-Sakauye, chief justice of the California Supreme Court, and Robert Mendez, senior vice president of diversity at Disney-ABC Television Group.
