Education School Overview

Students enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education have a multitude of opportunities to get involved both in the classroom and around Philadelphia.

The school offers a variety of degrees, including Ph.D.’s; Ed.D.’s; and Master of Science, Master of Science in Education, and Master of Philosophy in Education programs to train educators, leaders, and health professionals. Graduate students can also take advantage of the University of Pennsylvania’s other highly ranked departments by completing a joint or dual degree through another school at Penn.

Faculty and students at the Penn GSE help to manage schools in West Philadelphia and train local educators. There is also a Teach for America Urban Teacher certificate program for TFA instructors working in the School District of Philadelphia.

The school runs more than 10 centers, including the National Center on Families and Fathers and the Penn Center for Educational Leadership. Students can complete research projects or get involved in a number of GSE student organizations such as the Educational Linguistics Forum and Refugee Education Partners. Students can live on or off Penn’s campus in University City, an area in West Philadelphia.
