Research is an integral part of the graduate education at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, known as GSE&IS for short. The campus in Los Angeles is home to well-regarded centers like the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing; the Higher Education Research Institute; and the Center for International and Development Education.
Students can get experience in the UCLA Lab School, an on-campus test school that experiments with innovative education techniques for students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The school also operates the UCLA Community School, where faculty members can research and demonstrate new education practices for kindergarteners through high school seniors. The GSE&IS is especially known for its training programs for education administrators, policymakers, and psychologists.
As the school’s name suggests, there are also degree programs in Information Studies, including master’s degrees in Moving Image Archive Studies and Library and Information Science. Faculty and staff are active in community engagement, including projects through the school’s Center for Improving Child Care Quality, and students can get involved, too.
Graduate students can live in university-owned apartments, and for study breaks, the Pacific Ocean and its beaches are a quick five-mile trip away.
