Education School Overview

The application fee for the Education program at the Boston College is $65. Its tuition is full-time: $1,212 per credit and part-time: $1,212 per credit. The Lynch School of Education at Boston College has 55 full-time faculty on staff with a 3.8:1 ratio of full-time equivalent doctoral students to full-time faculty.

Boston College is a private Roman Catholic Jesuit institution that offers some unique faith-based specialty degree options through the Lynch School of Education. In conjunction with the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, the school offers a Catholic Leadership Program for future principals and presidents of Catholic schools and a dual M.A. in Pastoral Ministry/M.A. in Counseling Psychology degree program. Students also have a wide variety of traditional master’s or Ph.D. degree options in areas including elementary teaching, secondary teaching, and higher education administration.

Lynch graduate students can complete dual degree programs such as an M.A./M.B.A. with the highly ranked Carroll School of Management or a J.D./M.A. or J.D./M.Ed. through the BC School of Law. There is also a Certificate of Advanced Educational Specialization (C.A.E.S.) program for students who have already completed graduate work.

Outside the classroom, research and outreach programs at the school focus on collaboration, not competition, and students and faculty devote time to initiatives throughout Boston, such as City Connects, which supports elementary school students. The Lynch Leadership Academy, another school initiative, trains principals in urban schools—whether a district, charter, or Catholic school. There are several centers and institutes at Lynch, including the Barbara and Patrick Roche Center for Catholic Education and the Institute for the Study and Promotion of Race and Culture.

Lynch students can also get involved in university-wide graduate student initiatives including the Whole Person Education Workshop Series, which ready students in any discipline to work in higher education. Students looking for housing in Boston can apply for a limited number of university-controlled, off-campus housing spaces or can use the university’s database of private off-campus housing options to find their own.
