Business School Overview

The Henry B. Tippie School of Management at University of Iowa offers graduate programs in these departments and concentrations: finance, general management, marketing, production/operations management, and portfolio management. Its tuition is full-time: $18,758 per year (in-state); full-time: $34,420 per year (out-of-state); part-time: $600 per credit (in-state); part-time: $600 per credit (out-of-state); executive: $55,000 total program (in-state); and executive: $55,000 total program (out-of-state). At graduation, 72.9 percent of graduates of the full-time program are employed.

The goal of the University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie School of Management is to prepare students for a global marketplace by promoting innovation, communication, analysis, and technology throughout its programs.

Students at the Tippie School of Management can learn stock market strategy and behaviors firsthand by trading on the Iowa Electronic Market, an online futures market developed by University of Iowa faculty. Used as a research and teaching tool, students invest real money and trade “shares” on political candidates, box office outcomes, and company earnings on the online futures market.

Beyond the markets, students at the University of Iowa’s Tippie School of Management can consult for area companies at the school’s Business Solutions Center, hone their start-up skills at the Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory, or become versed in the world of finance at the Hawkinson Institute of Business Finance. Outside of the classroom, students can enjoy the restaurants, cafes, and bars crowding Iowa City’s pedestrian mall, or get in touch with nature at nearby Lake Macbride State Park.

The Tippie School of Management offers a traditional on-campus M.B.A. program, as well as a remote option for professionals and managers, and an International M.B.A. program in Hong Kong. Experienced professionals can complete their M.B.A. in as little as 21 months with the University of Iowa’s accelerated Executive M.B.A. program, and have the option of a dual master’s program to earn a master of engineering in systems engineering from Iowa State University along with their M.B.A. from Tippie.

Famous alumni from the Tippie School of Management include George Nissen, inventor of the trampoline; Richard Freeman, former CEO of the San Diego Padres; and Michael Maves, executive vice president and CEO of the American Medical Association.
