The mission of the University of Connecticut School of Business begins with the words, “Real World, Real Learning, Real Impact.” The school delivers on that mission by focusing on experiential learning initiatives, both in the classroom and outside, through programs such as the Financial Accelerator: a consulting resource developed by a team of business executives and UConn students. Other experiential learning opportunities in the UConn School of Business include the Student Managed Investment Fund and the Innovation Accelerator, which is part of the university’s Center for Entrepreneurship.
Full-time M.B.A. students at UConn can complete their degrees in about 22 months of daytime classes at the main campus, in the town of Storrs. It takes part-time M.B.A. students about three years of evening courses to complete their degree at locations in Hartford, Stamford, and Waterbury. Business professionals with some experience under their belts can opt for UConn’s Executive M.B.A. program, which is a cohort format in Hartford that takes about 20 months of weekend classes to complete. Graduate students in the UConn School of Business can also pursue an M.S. in accounting or a master of science in financial risk management.
For post-graduation plans, UConn grad students should explore the School of Business Career Center, which provides job listings and helps students with interviewing, résumés, and salary negotiations, among other services. IBM, Aetna, Hartford Financial, General Electric, NASDAQ, and Walmart are among the top employers of UConn School of Business graduates. Notable alumni of the University of Connecticut School of Business include William Simon, president and CEO of Walmart U.S., and John Kim, executive vice president of New York Life Investment Management LLC.
