Business School Overview

The W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University is one of the largest business schools in the country with roughly 300 faculty and 1,800 graduate students. Students have four options for earning an M.B.A. on a full-time or part-time schedule, including evening, executive, and online M.B.A. programs. The school also offers a Ph.D. program as well as specialized graduate degrees in Accountancy, Taxation, Agribusiness, Information Management, and Real Estate Development. The Master of Real Estate Development degree is an accelerated 30-week program focused on training professionals in the practices of real estate. In contrast, most other real estate development programs are offered in one or two year formats.

Although the school is large, most full-time M.B.A. courses have fewer than 45 students in order to promote an interactive discussion of topics. During students’ first term on campus, they are required to write an Individual Development Plan, which is a plan to develop qualities as a leader. It is referred to throughout the first and second year and summer internship for updates and analysis. Joint degrees are offered in conjunction with the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law and the School of Architecture, as well as in conjunction with the Master of Accountancy and Master of Science in Information Management programs.

Being one of the largest business schools in the country means having a large alumni base, and the W.P. Carey School of Business has more than 60,000 graduates working around the world. Notable alumni include Kevin Hanigan, president and chief operating officer of Guaranty Financial Group; Martin Quintana, chief operating officer of nonprofit community development corporation Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc.; and Larry Seay, chief financial officer and vice president of finance for real estate development company Meritage Homes Corp.
